It was a mixed weekend for Mansfield team UK1 riders Luke Jones and Taylor Mackenzie at Oulton Park.
Superstock 600 rider Luke Jones started the weekend well and was an impressive half a second faster than anyone else in his class at the start of the first practice session.

A high side at the fast Avenue section of the track ended the session early.

A second crash in qualifying followed by an engine misfire saw the 19-year-old qualify in an uncharacteristic 24th position on the grid.

Luke’s luck changed little in the race as he crashed out on lap five whilst trying to move through the field.

The young rider was distraught after the race as this was the first time in 13 races he had finished off the podium.

Reflecting on the weekend, Niall Mackenzie said “I’m sure that Luke’s crashes made this one of the hardest weekends of his career.

“Hopefully he will have more luck at Brands Hatch this weekend where he already holds pole position on the grid.”

In contrast, UK1’s young 125GP rider Taylor Mackenzie exceeded everyone’s expectations again by finishing the race in 12th position and claiming his first championship points of the season.

The result takes him up to sixth place in the ACU Academy Cup points table.

The team will be at Brands Hatch this weekend for the re-run of the first round of the championship which was halted by snow earlier in the year.
