Nottingham's Wollaton Park again played host to the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships and marked, for most runners, the end of another busy cross country season.
The event, which was televised live on Sky, gave Mansfield’s youngsters the opportunity to run over the same ground as many international athletes who were competing in the senior races.

With representative honours being gained for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, athletes were selected based on their performances at January’s County Championship events.

In the Junior Men’s event Daniel Heathcote showed evidence of a hard winter’s training and built off his recent strong performances for the Army.

Mansfield’s Heathcote was first Notts athlete home in 57th place in a race in which the first three athletes were rewarded with a place in the GB team for this weekend’s World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh.

James Mee had a disappointing race, finishing in 162nd, and will be hoping that a back injury he has suffered with clears up for the upcoming track and summer road season.

Daniel Winter was best placed of Mansfield’s other male athletes with a 94th place finish in the U17 Men’s event.

Ryan Saxton and Henry Partridge finished 111th and 178th respectively in the U15 boys’ race with Tom Wragg (112), Sam Johnson (202), Jonny Brown (211) and Jake Lancaster (263) completing the line up in the U13 event.

Mansfield athletes occupied five of the Nottinghamshire team spots in the U15 girls race but it was left to the Lincolnshire representative – Dee-Anna Davey - to take the first spot home with an excellent 38th place finish.

Siobhan Harrison was just four places behind in 42nd with Hannah Wragg just outside the top 50 in 53rd.

Claire Talbot (121), Hannah Harrison (201) and Sophie Ward (233) were the other Nottinghamshire representatives.

Chevelle Baxter led home the Mansfield contingent in the U13 girls event in 153rd followed by Demi-Jade Jakymelen (165), Charlotte Bellingham (202) and Hannah Hardy (210).

Kate Raynor and Holly Blount turned out in the U17 Women’s race, finishing in 203rd and 205th respectively.

l Harriers sent a Senior Men’s team and a Veteran Men’s team to the Livingston Relays at Loughborough on Easter Sunday.

Incorporating the East Midlands Championships the senior men’s race was run by four athletes, each running a leg of just over three miles.

Mansfield’s senior quartet finished in 5th place – a great result in their first turn out in this event.

Stuart King went out on first leg with a strong run bringing Harriers back in sixth position and recording a time of 15-44.

King passed over to Mike Mumford who retained sixth position, just managing to dip under 18 minutes with a time of 17-57 before passing on to James Mee.

Mee made up for a disappointing run in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships with a great performance – finishing in 15-34 and taking Harriers into fifth position.
