In the latest rounds of the British Ford Saloon Car Championship at Snetterton, Norfolk, local outfit, Team Hood Racing, featuring Southwell based driver Graham Field, were absolutely delighted to return with two trophies and a bag full of points.
Sunday’s qualifying session had put the Team Hood car in second place on the grid in Class C and a flying start meant that position was maintained for a number of laps until the flying Oliver Allen (last year’s champion) blasted through the pack to secure second and relegate Graham Field to third place - a position he managed to retain to the finish and secured 13 points.
Overnight saw some judicious engine tuning by Peter Powell of PCP Race engineers giving some hope of improved performance for the following day’s race.
The warm and sunny conditions were repeated for the Monday race and an even better start than the previous day saw Field overtake Rob Wells by going right round the outside on bend one, mostly on the grass, and securing second place behind Oliver Allen.
The lead, however, changed quickly as Allen was forced to retire with a blown cylinder head gasket and, after a number of laps of very tight racing, Field took the chequered flag in first place, securing another 16 points and thus the lead in class C and third place in the overall championship.
The next two races take place at Cadwell Park near Louth in Lincs on 14th/15th June. Details at www.teamhoodracing.co.uk.
