Mansfield Triathlon Club's Hannah Mulcaster warmed up for next month's World Triathlon Championships by winning the Southwell Sprint Triathlon Women's race.
Hannah completed the 400m swim, 18km bike, and 5km run in a blistering time of 55:31, 36 seconds ahead of second-placed Emilie Verroken.
Hannah posted the fastest female swim split, doing the 400m in just 6:42.
Her bike split of 29:37 was the
third fastest, with her run split of 17:58 placing her second fastest runner.
Hannah also gained time over her rivals with lightning-quick transition times.
Hannah looked particularly strong coming off the bike to start her run and she puts this down to a lot of transition practice over the winter.
Being strong off the bike will stand her in good stead for her World Championship challenge in Vancouver next month.
Backing up Hannah’s overall win was Deborah Hudson, making her debut in triathlon, who took the number one slot in her age group (Female over 50) with a time of 1:16:59.
So surprised was Deborah with her win she didn’t even hear her name when it was first announced and it was only after much shouting and cajoling from her club mates that she was able to take her place on the podium.
Hannah’s and Deborah’s wins were the highlights of the da,y but Mansfield Triathlon Club members put in some strong performances across the age groups.
Debutant Tony Goodyear posted a creditable time of 1:06:20 despite suffering a rear-wheel puncture on the return lap of the bike leg.
Tony finished just under a minute ahead of fellow debutant Paul Tibble (1:07:05), who was racing for the club for the first time.
Promising junior, Chris Dale, marked the first anniversary of his triathlon debut by posting a time of 55:14, which was an improvement of 2:47 over his 2007 time in this event.
Stephen Melhuish (57:01), Mike Jones (1:00:24), Paul Hughes (1:00:27) and Sally Hughes (1:02:37) all posted improved times from their performances in the 2007 event, some of these being personal bests.
Due to a mix-up over swim times Anton Newell found himself having to race against swimmers much slower than himself but this still didn’t stop him from completing the course in under one hour (59:24).
The club line-up was completed by Chris Shooter (1:00:17), Mathew Hemsley (1:00:20), Ian Ellis (1:09:07), Alison Jones (1:21:57), and Hugh Barnett (1:38:57).
