Mansfield optician Hannah Mulcaster won the women's race at the Wolverhampton Triathlon.
As Britain’s top female triathletes were preparing to race in the Olympic Triathlon in Beijing, Hannah brought home her third victory of the 2008 season with her biggest margin to-date, some nine minutes 20 seconds over second placed Victoria Web fro
m the RAF Triathlon Club.
Meanwhile Mansfield Triathlon Club’s Dave Miles was one of only 32 people to complete the Enduroman Double Iron UK Triathlon.
Miles finished in 18th position overall, completing this mammoth event in 29 hours and 13 minutes.
His 4.8 mile swim took 2:54:13, during which he had to exit the pool to take a comfort break.
Then his 224 mile bike ride took 14:02:32 and his 52.4 mile run took 12:15:44, including a 60 minute sleep during the second transition.
Hannah completed the 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run in 2:15:22 with Webb coming in on 2:24:42. Hannah’s splits were 19:41 for the swim, 72:58 for the bike, and 44:25 for the run. Hannah’s transitions were lightening fast, taking her just 36 seconds to switch from the swim to the bike ride and only 22 seconds to switch from the bike to the run.
While Hannah took first prize in the women’s race, her fellow Mansfield Triathlon Club member, Sally Hughes, came in fourth with a time of 2:27:09, just 45 seconds off third place and a podium finish.
In the men’s race Mansfield Triathlon Club were represented by Stephen Melhuish (2:19:24), Anton Newell (2:20:33), Chris Shooter (2:22:46), Peter Orme (2:24:27), and David Presho (2:32:35). Orme’s time gave him third place overall in the Male Senior Veterans category.
