A truly great effort from Sutton Sting U12s saw them pipped 3-2 by a late goal against Coventry Blaze at the Coventry Skydome on Saturday.
The Blaze are currently ranked second in the league and the kids from Sutton knew they were in for a hard fought match, but what unfolded was almost unbelievable. The kids from Sutton were determined to show they are no longer the pushovers they once
were, and are now a team full of determination and passion.
The Sting’s centre Jacob Flowers didn’t take long to display his talent on the ice, covering every inch, and it wasn’t long before the first goal was confidently slotted into the Coventry net by Lawson Glasby.
Blaze levelled and were relieved to go in at 1-1.
The second period exceeded all expectations from the Sting team and they regained their lead through Joshua Gregory
The Blaze quickly called time out and after a team talk from the bench brought it back to 2-2.
The atmosphere was electric in the last period as Blaze realised that the win was slipping from their grasp, but just as the last minutes were ticking away, the home side slotted home the winning goal.
Neverthless, a narrow 3-2 defeat at a side who are in the play-offs and second in the league was a truly outstanding result. Spirit of the Game was awarded to Isaac Sheppard.
