The glitz and glamour normally associated with the Oscars came to Shirebrook recently as over three-hundred people packed into Kissingate Leisure Centre to honour the top sportspeople and teams at the annual Bolsover and District Sports Awards.
Team Bolsover District (BD) saw a wide range of winners from people who have dedicated their life to sport, to Junior Team of the Year and they picked up their awards as recognition of their commitment to sport and achievements they have made over the last twelve months.

Over 100 people and clubs were nominated to receive one of the 14 awards up for grabs which were aimed solely at the voluntary sector across Bolsover district.

The winners will now feed into county, regional and national sports award events.

Council chairman Coun Ken Walker said: “What a fantastic night. On the back of the Olympic success of Team GB, it was nice to see so many deserving local sportspeople pick up their own ‘gold’ medals.

“We have so many individuals whose commitment and achievements go unrewarded and this was our chance to say thank you and well done.

“When you look round the hall and see what an amazing array of talent we have within the district, you can’t help but feel humbled. I mean we have the disabled European golf champion, someone who has committed his life to running and a junior athletics team who are national champions.

“My congratulations go to not only the winners, but everyone who was nominated and takes part in sport.”
