AN excellent opening round of four under par from Oliver Wilson left him just one shot off the lead in fourth place at last week's Honda Classic in Florida.
But four dropped shots over the back nine in his second round cost him dear as Wilson slipped down the field with a three over 73.
In his third round he looked to have repaired the damage with five birdies over his opening 11 holes, until two succ
essive double bogies at the 14th and 15th ruined all his good work.
A one-over-par 71 in his fourth round left him in a share of 17th place in his first tournament on the regular PGA Tour this year.
Greg Owen did not fare so well as he missed the cut with a five over par leaving him two off the cut mark.
This week Wilson is in action in the second World Golf Championships of the year in the CA Championship at the TPC Blue Monster at Miami, Florida where he came in fifth place last year.
On the local golf scene Coxmoor members finally got into competitive action after a long bad weather lay-off.
In Division One of the March Medal Martin Scothern returned a three-under-par 70 to take the scratch prize.
Alan Jarvis won the nett prize with a nett 70, with Steve Ludlam taking third place after a countback from Mike Smith and Joe Caunt, all three with nett 72.
Allan Smith won Division Two, also with a nett 70, one better than Nathan Oaks and Pete Swift.
Division One of the weekend stableford at Rufford Park went to Richard Rowley with a total of 40 points. He finished three ahead of Russ Griffiths, with Kevin Sullivan in third a further three points off the pace.
In Division Two Simon Barker carded 41 points, one better than Kyle Gordon, with Lee Taylor in third with 38 points.
A best-of-the-day 43 points won the Third Division for Lindsey Walkman, followed by Tony Stanger and Marc Dudley, both on 37 points.
In the First Division of Oakmere Park's Saturday Medal Andrew Henderson took the top spot with a nett 66, four ahead of Matthew Pinnick with Clark Bradshaw in third with a nett 73.
Alex Morrell carded a nett 68 - one clear of Colin Ralphs and Alex Storer.
Roy Lane won Division Three after a countback from Martin Cooper, both with nett 69, with Ian Hayes in third with a nett 71.
Jack Taylor carded 39 points to win the Sunday Stableford by two from Andrew Henderson and Paul Stoker.
Alan Seddon won Division Two on the back nine from Steve Mee, both with 40 points, with third place going to Phil Ellis with 37 points.
In Division Three Roy Lane won with 37 points followed by Jacob Smith, 33 points, and Peter Turner with 32 points.
Jason Davies won the Thursday Stableford with 37 points.
In Round 10 of the Ladies' Golfer of the Winter, Jane Birch took first place with 37 points, followed by Dorothy Bradshaw and Emily Cheshire on 33 points.
