FORMER England ace Peter Beardsley has tried to make amends for his non-appearance at last week's charity football match at Glapwell.
Beardsley’s puncture en route left 1,200 fans disappointed when he failed to show at Jamie Walker’s annual game in aid of King’s Mill Haematology Department, the Lymphoma Association and the Lymphoma Research Trust.
However, he has since been in touch and offered to speak at former lymphoma sufferer Jamie Walker’s annual fund-raising dinner at Centre Parcs for free later in November and bring his own comedian.
He will also bring two signed Newcastle United shirt for auction and has invited former Stags youngster Jamie to Newcastle’s first game of next season where he will go pitchside to meet the players.
Jamie’s dad Phil, who co-organises the fund-raisng efforts, said: “This is a nice gesture, but I still feel so sorry for all those people who came to Glapwell to see him. For him to not show was devastating.”
Last week’s game between Jamie Walker’s XI and a Scott Sellars Legends XI still raised another £4,000 and the Walkers have now raised around £40,000 over the two years which should help people like Jamie who is now in remission.
