SCONES were on hand on Thursday week when Mrs Eileen Bridgewater, pictured second right, of Horsehead Lane, Bolsover, hosted an afternoon event at her home which raised £110 for the charity Samaritan's Purse's Turn on the Tap Challenge. Also pictured from left are Paula Sinclair, Blanche Huckle and Freda Gascoyne.
Tessa Hope, of the Chesterfield section of the charity, spoke about its work providing wells or boreholes in Africa for the people there to have clean water.

She explained that many people die from disease associated with drinking contaminated water, and that youngsters can walk up to 14 miles to collect about 15 litres of water.

Mrs Blanche Huckle organised a raffle with 12 prizes and manned a sales table. Mrs Bridgewater was thanked for her hospitality by Tessa Hope.
