Tributes to campaigning Langwith councillor Pam Smith

A CAMPAIGNING councillor who spearheaded a successful legal challenge to stop an American firm from taking over the running of Langwith Medical Centre has died of a brain haemorrhage.
Coun Pam Smith, of Jellicoe Street, Langwith, died suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 68.
She sat on Scarcliffe Parish Council and clerk Sue Wilton this week described her as 'one of the most active members', telling Chad: "It was very sudden and unexpected and we are still coming to terms with it. As a parish councillor she was very committed and she will be sadly missed."
Coun Smith hit the headlines after leading the successful campaign to thwart UnitedHealth from winning the contract to run the medical centre and was still actively involved in talks between the council and current managers ChilversMcCrea over its management.
This week's parish council meeting has been cancelled out of respect for Coun Smith, but a scheduled meeting with ChilversMcCrea scheduled for last night (Tuesday) went ahead as planned.
