AN innovative project run at the Shires Healthcare in Shirebrook has been short listed for a prize at the prestigious Ask About Medicines Awards for Excellence 2008, taking place at the Houses of Parliament tonight.
The Joined Care Programme is aimed at the over 65s and uses an approach called 'unique care', which is an integrated way of looking at helping patients with complex long-term conditions in a primary care setting and aims to increase patient independence and the inappropriate use of medicines.

Says Mark Thompson, community pharmacist at Shires Healthcare: "This project has been successful at increasing understanding about patients' needs across a range of healthcare settings, who all play a significant role in improving the quality of the patients care."

We're delighted to have been nominated for this prestigious award and that a similar scheme is now being offered in a neighbouring town as the result of our work."
