SHIREBROOK'S Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Steve Cathcart has been praised this week for continuing to provide a visible police presence in the town.
He has been the top performing PCSO in Derbyshire for the past two years and is well known in the community for his commitment and dedication.

Speaking after a Shirebrook Town Council meeting last Wednesday, Coun Brian Murray-Carr told Chad that Steve's pro-active approach has earned him the respect of residents.

"What he has done for the community is absolutely brilliant," he said.

"Groups of youths, even the ones who are the main problem causers, have a lot of respect for Steve because he is always fair.

"He has given local people a lot of confidence because he is always seen around the town and is easily contactable if you want to speak to him."

•Shirebrook town councillors have agreed to give £300 to the Lighthouse Theatre Group, £300 to East Midlands Owl & Hawk and £100 to Shirebrook Floral Art Society.
