New drive to keep kids off Bolsover's streets

BOLSOVER police are planning a number of diversionary activities to keep youngsters off the streets during the summer holidays and cut down on anti-social behaviour.
Police representatives asked an Old Bolsover Town Council meeting on Tuesday to back the plans and sounded out councillors on the possibility of receiving funding for the scheme.
Activities will be aimed at youngsters aged 11-19 from the Bolsover, Creswell, Langwith and Whaley areas and it is hoped they can build some friendly rivalry and competition between the towns and villages.
Police officers and PCSOs will run the activities, which will give youngsters a chance to engage with them in a positive way.
An official request for funding will now be lodged with the council.
A Police representative told the meeting the total number of crimes in the town and the surrounding areas had fallen from 69 in May to 52 in June
Councillors were told there had been a drop in every type of crime except criminal damage –– which increased from 25 to 27 incidents –– and attempted burglary of a non-dwelling, up from four to five incidents.
From May to June, incidents of violence fell from 19 to 14, attempted dwelling burglary dropped from three incidents to one, theft of a motor vehicle decreased from five to one and there were four thefts from motor vehicles in June compared to 12 the previous month.
The fall in the number of incidents was attributed to increased police patrols and Operation Relentless, which has targeted alcohol-related disorder
