FORMER Yorkshire lass Miss Evelyn Madeline Birchall, pictured, a resident of Langwith Lodge Care Home, Nether Langwith, celebrated her 100th birthday with members of her family, and a visit from Bassetlaw District Council Chairman, Coun Wendy Quigley.
Born in Halifax, one of three children, Miss Birchall was educated in Leeds.

Leaving school at age 14, she began work in a shoe shop.

A member of the Methodist Church from an early age she attended three times each Sunday. She was a member of a concert party in her native Yorkshire with whom she travelled widely, singing and giving recitations and monologues.

On moving to this area her first impression was how wonderful Bolsover Castle looked when fully illuminated.

For her special day she was visited by nieces and nephews from Scotland and received greetings from a nephew in Spain.
