A LANGWITH burglar was netted after his partner-in-crime left a till receipt at the scene, a court was told.
William Hall, who runs an engineering business called BH repairs, left two storage units on land off Mansfield Road, Edwinstowe, securely locked on 8th January.

He returned a week later and saw padlocks fitted to the doors had been cut off and pr
operty had been stolen from both buildings.

Prosecutor Helen Griffiths told Chesterfield magistrates last Wednesday that Mr Hall found a till receipt from a cash machine in the Shirebrook area and handed it to police.

The receipt and CCTV footage led officers on the trail of Keith Happs, who was traced and interviewed before he implicated Garry Davies in the burglary.

Davies told police the raid was Happs' idea. He said Happs drove them to the scene where they both stole property and 'sold it on to gypsies'.

Davies admitted going back later to take more items and £500 worth of stolen tools and machinery were recovered from his address. A search also found three cannabis plants in his loft.

Davies (43), of Portland Road, Langwith, admitted burglary between January 8th-15th and possessing cannabis plants on 10th February. He asked for theft of a battery charger from a care home to be considered.

Magistrates considered jailing him, but decided instead to impose an 18-month probation supervision order and an 8pm-8am curfew for the next four months.

He was also ordered to pay Mr Hall £750 compensation and £60 costs.

In mitigation, Ian Giggal said: "It was a joint enterprise. He tends to behave stupidly on the spur of the moment and he has been in prison before, but he has a caring side to him."

Happs (38), of Union Street, Mansfield, has also admitted burglary of the units and his case is being dealt with separately.
