ANIMAL lovers are being urged to give a stray dog a happy home after 723 canines were abandoned across Shirebrook and Bolsover in the last two years.
Bolsover District Council's cabinet member for the environment, Coun Dennis Kelly, said re-homing a rescued dog was a big commitment but could be a very rewarding relationship.
"We have a policy that no healthy dog will be destroyed and that's why we need new people to come forward and put their names down on our re-homing register," he said.
