MORE than £50,000 has been pledged by council chiefs to support Sunday train services through Shirebrook and Langwith.
Derbyshire County Council will contribute £51,183 over the next four year towards the service on the Robin Hood Line, which will benefit residents living near four railway stations in the county.
The Sunday service, which will cost more than £500,000, will come in for the first time in December on the Nottingham to Worksop line and is also being funded by Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council.
Brian Lucas, cabinet member for environmental services, said: "This is great news for residents in and around Shirebrook, Langwith-Whaley Thorns, Creswell and Whitwell.
"They will now be able to quickly hop on a train and visit places in our region to shop, take part in leisure activities or simply get to work easier."
The new service will be operated by East Midlands Trains and will include 10 trains each way between Nottingham and Mansfield, with four continuing to Worksop.
It will run until 2011 and if it proves popular, it is hoped the Department for Transport will fund it permanently.
