A CARR Vale woman assaulted a police officer who intervened in a dispute between her brother and his girlfriend.
Police received a report of a fight involving a man and two females in Angel Yard, Chesterfield town centre, on 7th August at 10.15pm.
Sarah Feltham (20) was holding her brother Benjamin, who was shouting threats at his girlfriend, Natalie Beardsley, and trying to move towards her.
Prosecutor Helen Griffiths told Chesterfield magistrates on Monday that Pc John Lockwood stood between the couple at the centre of the fracas and was struck on the chest by Sarah Feltham.
A female officer then arrived and helped her colleague to restrain Feltham, taking her to the ground and handcuffing her.
Feltham, of Longlands, admitted assault and using threatening behaviour and was fined £80 by District Judge John Friel.
She was serving an unpaid work order at the time of the offence after being convicted of assaulting a police officer in January.
'Heated'
The court was told that she had already breached that order and was ordered to do an extra 20 hours unpaid work at an earlier hearing.
In mitigation, Joe Harvey said: "They were out together when her brother and his girlfriend had a fall-out which became quite heated.
"She stepped in to try and calm things down and was doing a good job of this when the officer came in, grabbed her and pushed her out of the way.
"She was aggrieved at being manhandled and pushed him back."
Beardsley (22) of Kingsley Avenue, Grangewood, Chesterfield, admitted using threatening behaviour and damaging a police vehicle by spitting inside it, but denied assaulting the female officer.
Her case was adjourned to 1st September when Feltham's brother is also due to appear in court on charges relating to the same incident.
