WITH the exception of winner Stuarrt Boughey, no one could put together a string of three or four bites without big fishless intervals at Shirebrook Staff AC's final match of the club season at Lakeview Fishery Serpent Pond.
For some reason Stuart used the same caster bait as a lot of others on the pole but managed to catch steadily to weigh in 21lb 15oz of mostly small, stocky carp.

This Midas touch saw him double the weight of most day's catches.
Second-placed visi
tor Ricky Boughey had a late run of fish in the afternoon on maggot to pole to weigh in 12lb 4oz of stocky carp with the rest struggling on a day of perfect weather.

Church Warsop AC club secretary John Dunlop found form at last to squeeze a narrow victory on Little John Lakes' Robin Hood Lake.

He caught carp to 3lb steadily on pole with worm over hemp and pellet, for 46lb 5oz, narrowly pipping visitor Bob Bormanis, with 45lb 4oz on pole and luncheon meat, into second place with Dave Wilson a close third with 45lb 4oz on pole and worm.

Andy Read won his first match with Mansfield Piscatorials with 97lb 4oz - well clear of second-placed Ian Rowney, who just pipped club chairman by 3oz.

Rowney is now second in the club championship, seven points behind leader Lee Monington and, with only one match left, may have left it too late to catch him.

James Maude fished Portland Canal for the second time this year with a turnout of 21 anglers.

But, although all but two caught fish, weights were not as good as last time round, when 133lb won it, with Pete Lambert taking his first win of the season with 99lb 15oz.

He drew favoured peg one and fished maggot on the pole to catch carp throughout.

The bottom end pegs were the place to draw in Pride of Warsop's match on Holmesdale Lake with Tony Blackman on end peg 29 winning with 64 lb 6oz of carp to 12 lb.

Most of the fish came in the last two hours with Tony fishing straight out on the pole at 11m using mainly worm hookbait and occasionally meat.

Dave Wilson on peg 24 took 2nd with 51 lb 8oz of good size carp on the pole at 11m on worm bait.

Anvil Angling Club had cool and overcast conditions for their matdch at Portland Grange Fishery at Sibthorpe on the canal lake.

Drew Richmon fished to the far bank where he caught carp throughout on pellet and meat to for a match-winning 60lb 8oz.

Second was Steve Knowles who fished pole and 5m for carp to 10lb plus on worm hookbaits for a 46lb 15oz total.
