A DISAPPOINTED Darren Price has issued a statement to supporters following his dismissal as Shirebrook Town FC manager last week.
The Northern Counties East League Premier Division club are still looking for their first point and first goal of the season and are now looking for a replacement for Price, who was removed after last weekend's FA Cup exit against Winterton.

Price
said: "I would like to thank Shirebrook Town for giving me the opportunity of the manager's job when Tony Maggs stepped down.

"After keeping them from relegation last year and also taking them further than anyone else in the Derbyshire Senior Cup I am disappointed in the manner I have been dismissed.

"I know football is all about results and the results haven't gone the way we all hoped but there are reasons for this.

"When I took over the team they were low in confidence, playing round pegs in square holes and the style of football was unwatchable.

"I changed the style of football and made it more attractive to watch. This gave the players more confidence which then had positive results, taking us near to the top of the form table at the end of last season.

"For whatever reason the chairman failed to arrange any pre-season games as we had agreed at the end of last season, so I was only afforded the luxury of only playing two pre-season games which was not good enough at this level of football.

"This then had a knock-on effect when we went into the first game of the season unprepared. We were not match fit, trying to look at new players, coping with holidays, illnesses, injuries and suspensions - it just wasn't good enough.

"Any team with 12 new players in their squad being thrown in at the deep end is always going to struggle at first."

He continued: "In the last four games against Nostell, Arnold, Thackley and Winterton, the performances we put in were brilliant. I couldn't have asked any more of my players and the results could have been so much different - even all four mangers commented that we were so unlucky.

"I took positives from each performance and was looking forward to having up to seven of my players back for this Saturday's game against Dinnington but unfortunately I haven't been afforded that luxury.

"Shirebrook Town now have their sixth manager in 18 months and it leaves me questioning why each manager fails to impress at this club."

And he concluded: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my players for their hard work and efforts and their continued support over the last couple of days. It has been overwhelming, thank you, all your hard work will pay off and I'm just sorry and disappointed that I haven't been allowed to continue the work that we started.

"A special thank you to Les Graham, Dave Winter and Steve Boddle for all their hard work and efforts and also their belief in building a squad at the club with a youth policy instead of the first team and the reserves being managed as two separate entities.

"I would like to wish the new manager well in his endeavours and wish Shirebrook Town all the best for the future.

"I am now hoping to spend some time with my family and hopefully will be back in football working with people that have the same beliefs in football that I do."
