DELIVERY drivers are being warned to turn off their engines and keep hold of their keys after a number of thefts across the area.
Twelve raids have taken place across North Nottinghamshire since 1st September –– including one on Newark Road, New Ollerton, at around 1pm on 8th October.

Police say thieves have taken advantage of drivers leaving keys in the ignition or lying around in jacket and coat pockets while they are away from their vehicles.

Said crime reduction manager, Trevor Timsom: "Delivery drivers often leave their keys in the ignition with the engine running to save time starting the engine each time and also to prevent the battery from wearing down.

"This is clearly a temptation to thieves who only need seconds to jump in the drivers seat and steal the vehicle.

"In some cases companies are risking breaching the conditions of their insurance by doing this as if keys are left in the vehicle or the engine kept running while the vehicle is unattended, the driver can be considered negligent."
