A SOUTHWELL doctor took her own life after a long struggle with depression, an inquest was told on Thursday.
Sarah Groome (49), of Nottingham Road, was a GP at Southwell Medical Centre and due to retire later this year due to ill health as a result of her long-standing depression.
She was last seen alive by her mother Wendy on 25th June. But when Wendy tried to call her daughter the next day she did not answer.
Sarah's parents then travelled to her home where they found her body and called the emergency services.
A post-mortem later revealed Sarah had died from cardiorespiratory failure as a result of taking an overdose of diamorphine and pethodine with alcohol.
Nottinghamshire coroner Dr Nigel Chapman said: "She has just decided to take her own life, I know that the whole family did a great deal to try to help her and I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to them."
