SOUTHWELL Minster School has released a statement in tribute to two 'respected and popular' sixth form pupils killed in a car crash in Blidworth on Tuesday evening.
Max William Dixon (17), of Main Street, Farnsfield, and 17-year-old James Moodie, of Main Street, Kirklington, died when the Peugeot 106 they were travelling in collided with a Ford Mondeo on Fishpool Road at around 10.15pm.

Both suffered multiple serious injuries and were taken to King's Mill Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The Minster School statement said:

"Max Dixon and James Moodie were well respected and popular members of the school and the news of their deaths has saddened the whole school community.

"House assemblies have been held and on Friday there is a special service in the school for our 400 Sixth Form students.

"Favourite music of Max and James will be played, while students look at photos submitted by their friends and peers.

"Prayers have been offered for all those affected by the accident, including the driver of the vehicle Max and James were travelling in.

"Two books of condolence will be opened and placed in the school chapel, and these will be presented to their parents in due course. The school has been well supported by its team of Chaplains, drawn from many of the local churches."

Said headteacher Phil Blinston: "This is a large school but a very close community and this week there has been a strong sense of loss, felt by staff and students alike.

"At times such as this you find out what a school is really like. We have seen many acts of sensitivity and care in recent days."

The school will be discussing with family members and students how to ensure there is a lasting reminder of the part that Max and James have played in the school.

The Peugeot driver, a 17-year-old male from the Farnsfield area, was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre for treatment to his injuries and is expected to be released from hospital on Thursday.

Police say the 50-year-old Mondeo driver, who was from the Southwell area, was treated at the scene for shock and minor injuries, but did not require hospital treatment.

Fishpool Road was closed while police examined the scene and recovered the vehicles.

The road was re-opened at around 3.30am on Wednesday morning.

Any witnesses should contact police on 0115 9670999 ext 2225.

Some tributes from the teenagers' peers at Minster School have included:

"Kind hearted and loving. They always saw the best in people and got the best out of life. The kind of friends to cherish forever. They were loved so much and will be terribly missed"

The sort of people no-one can say a bad word about. Great guys, greater friends. They will be missed by everyone"

"Just two of the most light-hearted, life loving individuals I ever had the honour of meeting. Two amazing friends and they'll both be missed by all."

Max was a friendly and very cool young man who would always have time for us even when he was out with his friends. We will miss seeing him around the village and on the skate park. To be honest Im still in shock. I cant imagine how Julie must be feeling but our thoughts are with her and the family.

sometimes life makes no sense at all.

3.28 am - i've spent all day with max & james' families, and have finished a slideshow of images we plan to play in the memorial service at school tomorrow.
Max was my best friend, and james an equally good mate.
I love you guys so much, and will miss you dearly.

As a Farnsfield resident, mother of a friend of the students who died and a member of staff at the The Minster School I would like to say how wonderful the Memorial Service in school was today. The friends of Max and Moodie should feel very proud of themselves and the way they have been so supportive of the families and everyone involved. The love, dignity and courage shown by the students today was humbling. The school and the community of Farnsfield are deeply saddened by this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved.
