NEW regulations are to be brought in across Newark & Sherwood to make travelling in limousines safer.
The district council has changed its taxi licensing policy to include limos, which will now have to meet the same guidelines as taxis on safety features such as the number of seatbelts and having a valid MOT and insurance.

Council chiefs are now calling on operators of limousines and other unusual vehicles, such as former fire engines, to step forward to be licensed.

Said Coun Tom Bickley, general purposes committee chairman: "By licensing limousines and other special event vehicles, the council is playing its part in public safety.

"Licensing keeps a regular check on the vehicle, the driver and the operating company to ensure that the passengers enjoying the ride are kept as safe and as comfortable as possible."

Vehicle operators should contact the council's licensing team on 01636 655894 or 01636 655236.
