Funeral for airman Gary Thompson

THE funeral of Senior Aircraftman Gary Thompson, who was killed in a roadside blast in Afghanistan last month, was held yesterrday.
Fifty-one-year-old Gary, of Sherwood, Nottingham, - a player at Southwell Rugby Club - was one of two RAF Regiment members to die in the Kandahar Province at 6.48pm during a routine patrol.

Gary, who worked as managing director of Sherwood Ducting in his civilian life, leaves behind his wife Jacqui and their five daughters.

The funeral was held at St Jude's Church, in Mapperley, and mourners were asked to bring bags of sweets, which will be sent to servicemen and women serving overseas
