THE military memorabilia of a former First World War soldier are to be preserved thanks to the Farnsfield Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL).
Sgt Percy Lockett served with 1/6 Battalion of the Manchester Regiment from 1914-1918 and was awarded the military medal for an act of gallantry in France in 1917.

After his daughter-in-law Audrey Lockett, of Spring Lane, visited her local Royal British Legion branch for advice, they contacted the Regimental Museum of the Manchester Regiment who confirmed the importance of the memorabilia.

Now the historic medals –– which include a British War medal, the 1914-1915 Star and a Long Service Medal –– will be stored at the museum as part of their regimental archives.

Other memorabilia includes a First World War Hard Tack Biscuit on which Sgt Lockett had written a message to his wife and two silver cigarette cases.

And delighted Audrey was able to hand deliver her father-in-law's medals thanks to a trip arranged by Farnsfield RBL branch chairman Trevor Wilds.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the day at the museum and am very grateful that they will be able to preserve the record of Percy's gallantry," she said.
