MORE than 3,000 letters of support for a proposed five-turbine windfarm in Rainworth have been sent to planning chiefs, it has been revealed.
Energy giant Npower Renewables wants to site the controversial 125m-high wind turbines at Lindhurst Farm, off Blidworth Lane, to create greener energy for at least 4,700 homes.

Many local residents are campaigning against the proposals, but the bid has been backed by environmental group the Sustainable Energy Alliance (SEA), which has sent in a further 700 letters of support from Nottinghamshire residents — taking the total to more than 3,000.

Jonathan Lincoln –– the UK coordinator for SEA, who grew up in Mansfield –– told Chad: "Clearly this number of letters is a strong
indication of the level of support from local people for the application and this must be taken into consideration when looking at whether or not to grant consent."

Earlier this year, locals submitted a petition signed by more than 2,500 people opposed to the plans — claiming the turbines would be an eyesore for residents in Rainworth and Mansfield and would cause light flickers when the sun passes behind the blades.
