STRUGGLING Rainworth saw their winless streak extended to eight matches after local rivals Arnold Town bagged an equaliser with just six minutes remaining.
The result did end the Wrens' five game losing streak, but leaves them 14 points adrift of leaders Bridlington Town who they had led just a few matches ago.

But, with Bridlington still saying they will refuse promotion, the promotion door may not yet be closed for Rudy Funk's side who are currently in third place behind Armthorpe.

Ant Lynam had put Rainworth into a 35th minute lead from the penalty spot after being brought down and, although they came under some second half pressure, Rainworth looked to be heading for the three points.

But with six minutes to go the lively visitors, who created more scoring chances, capitalised on a rare error by the normally reliable Ian Clarke for Robert Gill to equalise.

A share of the spoils was perhaps a fair result on balance of play, but it left the frustrated fans wondering what might have been.

Rainworth had started well and threatened through Mitchell in the third minute.

Mitchell was then in the thick of things when he was a whisker away from connecting with Wright's volley in front of goal in the 14th minute, before Arnold threatened for the first time a minute later when Josh Thornton's well struck effort was saved by Hales at the post.

Hales did even better four minutes later with a quite superb tip-over of Naylor's attempted chip following good work by Mark Smith.

The game then entered a spell of midfield monotony until the deadlock was finally broken in the 35th minute when Mitchell powered forward only to see his goal attempt charged down by a defender.

But in the ensuing melee Lynam was tripped from behind allowing the Wrens striker to blast home from the spot for his 23rd goal of the season.

Arnold began to raise their game in the second period and put the home side on the back foot.

Hales was at his best when he stuck out a foot to clear Naylor's header off the line as the visitors piled on the pressure.

Broster had to charge out of his box to just beat Lynam for Brendan Sweeney's through ball as Rainworth strived to lift the pressure.

But it was all in vain when, with six minutes to go, Clarke allowed himself to be caught in possession by Naylor, whose cross to the far post was turned in at close range by the inrunning Gill to leave the faltering Kirklington Road side still searching for a victory.
