ALMOST 400 athletes descended on the area on Sunday for this year's Mansfield Sprint Triathlon.
The event included a 400m pool swim at Meden Vale Leisure Centre, an 18km bike ride around the stunning Sherwood Forest countryside and a 5km run.

A spokesman for event organiser One Step Beyond said: "We believe that this is our fastest event of the year. A quick splash up and down the pool, followed by a truly speedy bike ride, on what can honestly be described as 'perfect biking roads'.

"The run may not be so smooth, but again is certainly fast, it could be due to the closed roads that we use or it could be that it's a downhill course.

"The Mansfield Sprint Triathlon is a great event and is perfect for every level. The first timers will have found it a gentle introduction to the triathlon, while more serious competitors will have used it to keep themselves sharp during the season."

The top three placed male and female athletes from Nottinghamshire will be selected to represent the county in regional championships later in the season.
