DAREDEVIL West Notts College students take a break during a trek of the Spanish Sierra Nevada mountain range as they aim to reach the summit of Mulhacen Peak –– which stands at 11,400ft high and is the highest mountain in the Iberian peninsula.
The group of five first year BTEC National Diploma Outdoor Adventure students took part in the eight-day challenge in southern Spain earlier this month alongside 14 Sherwood Hall School pupils and schoolchildren from a Derby school.

College chiefs say the trip was designed to help raise aspirations and highlight youth potential –– as well as emphasising great educational partnerships with local schools.

Student Alex Pegg, who took part in the expedition, told Chad "The climb to Mulhacen Peak was quite tiring and I really felt the altitude change.

"Overall, it was an amazing experience and I know that this challenge changed a lot of the younger members of the group. It increased their confidence no end. It was a real highlight of my course."
