CHILDREN at Ashfield Plaza Day Nursery receive a good standard of care and education, according to their latest Ofsted report.
An inspection team found the Kirkby day nursery, which is located at The Ashfield School, provides a safe and secure setting to protect children from harm or neglect as well as effective policies to promote healthy living.

Inspectors also found the centre, which offers care for up to 60 children aged under eight, helped youngsters to make good progress in enjoyable surroundings thanks to effective staffing and good organisation.

Says the report: "The quality of teaching and learning is good. The pre-school supervisor has a good understanding of the foundation stage curriculum and is very effective in implementing her skills to enhance children's all-round development.

"Most other staff have a suitable understanding and are generally confident in their knowledge of the foundation stage curriculum and how children learn.

"As a result, children take part in a good range of stimulating and meaningful activities that helps them to make good progress towards all the early learning goals."

School staff are praised for forming an effective relationship with the children, which helps to boost their self-esteem.

But the inspectors call for an improvement in the opportunities available to children to learn about different religions and cultures.

They also call on the school to continue improving staff skills and knowledge regarding the implementation of the foundation stage curriculum and to improve systems in place to support children's learning at home.

Centre manager Wendy Tyler told Chad: "We are really happy with the report. It is all down to being organised and having the right staff.

"We want to maintain these standards in the future and to make improvements where necessary. We have taken the report's recommendations on board and are going to work hard to get even better."
