LETTER: If motorists are fined for being on the phone, cyclists should be too

As everyone knows, hundreds of people have complained about the cyclists who are speeding in and out of the town.

The only answer we get is they are gone before we can catch them.
However, some of them are going slow because they are on their mobiles.
A motorist is now fined if they are caught using one whilst they are driving, so why aren’t cyclists fined in the same way?
They are equally as dangerous as a motorist.
Some cyclists have even been seen using them on the roads, and the motorist gets the blame if they are hurt.
That to me is victimising the motorist as well as ignoring a pedestrian’s needs and the cyclist ought to take the consequences instead of getting off completely free 90 per cent of the time.
