LETTER: I’d rather see trees than solar panels

Councillor Andrew Tristram, as portfolio holder for the environment, trumpets the upholding of his priority to protect the environment by having solar panels installed on the Civic Centre’s roof.
Unfortunately, Coun Tristram does not seem to have noticed the utter mutilation and destruction of swathes of trees in the Mansfield area in recent weeks.
It is nothing short of legal vandalism in my view, and how it fits in with the council’s local plan of “emphasis on climate change, mitigation and sustainable development” I will never understand.
For the benefit of Coun Tristram and his colleagues, trees absorb greenhouse gasses and provide us with oxygen, they are also more pleasant to look at than solar panels.
