LETTER: Buy book to help the homeless

Recently attention has been raised around homelessness and also a homeless Sunday was recently held.

A lady I know, Mary White, is a remarkable lady. She has written her autobiography, ‘Mansfield Born and Bred’, which can be obtained at our library with proceeds going to the charity Framework.
Prior to Christmas, I noticed about eight homeless people behind the main library, which I haven’t witnessed before, but the authorities didn’t appear to know about.
Quite recently, I spoke to a homeless man at St Peter’s Church in Nottingham. He had no roof over his head, so could not get any sort of benefits.
I do hope the authorities at Mansfield Council or whoever can do something for those sleeping out. I’m unsure of what capacity of empty properties there are.
Mary White’s book mentions several past locals, including John Sooby, who I knew well. It’s not always a case of the authorities being able to resolve it, but those people who buy Mary’s autobiography, will make a difference and a lot more than they realise.
