A woman who was arrested on suspicion of arson at the weekend is understood to have died following another fire.

Police have confirmed that a 44-year-old woman had died following the fire on Sedgebrook Street area, Mansfield Woodhouse, shortly after 12noon on Wednesday.

The woman was taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment for her injuries, where she died in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 25 June 2015). The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Although police are waiting on a formal identification, it is understood that the woman was Vanessa Lucas-Heathorn, who was involved in a house fire at her Valley View home on Sunday.

She escaped through a window after a fire had been deliberately lit on the ground floor.

She was taken to hospital and released Monday, but was promptly arrested on suspicion of arson.

She appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where the case was referred to Nottingham Crown Court where she was due to appear on 21st July.

She was then granted bail.

Following her death, Nottinghamshire Police have referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for investigation, which they say as is procedure following what is believed to be recent police contact with the woman.
