THEATRE-GOERS are in for an evening of old fashioned glamour at Mansfield Palace Theatre on 29th September with An Evening of Burlesque - and we have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader.
Star of the show is Rotherham performer Amber Topaz, who describes herself as ‘The Yorkshire Tease’ - but says that she had not planned on entering the Burlesque world. She said: “It never even occurred to me as a career path when I came down to London to study musical theatre.
“My introduction to earning a living in the performing arts was quite traditional, a part in Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre (in London).
“I also write my own songs and everything changed for me when I was posing for a photo of the cover of a CD I released. I was dressed as a 1940s/50s pin-up and the photographer happened to mention I should do burlesque.”
Amber has not had any formal lessons in the art but she quickly picked it up. She says: “I’d had no lessons in burlesque. At that time there weren’t any.
“I used my song and dance training and sense of humour to create elaborate routines with a storyline.”
In recent years, Burlesque has enjoyed a revival and along with this production, Amber has taken the lead in the musical Miss Nightingale, a touring burlesque-style production set in the 1940s.
She was also selected to represent Britain in the Miss Exotic World – Burlesque Hall of Fame pageant held in Las Vegas, competing against the best burlesque performers drawn from 11 other countries.
All tickets are priced at £19 each and the show is suitable to anyone aged 18 or over. For details or to book tickets visit www.mansfield.gov.uk/palacetheatre or call the Box Office on Mansfield 633133.
