Have your say

Has your favourite recipe got what it takes to tickle the tastebuds of pensioners’ palates? Nottinghamshire County Council is celebrating 40 years of its award winning meals on wheels service this year and is offering people the opportunity to serve up new menu ideas.

The Meals at Home team is offering members of the public the chance to submit their meals on wheels recipe ideas for a main course and/or desert.

The winning meal will be prepared, cooked, packed and added to the existing extensive recipe range delivered hot, chilled or frozen to more than 5,000 homes every day.

And the winner will be invited to County Enterprise Foods, where the meals are made, to see their creation coming off the production line... and then join a delivery team to take it out to customers.

Your entry could be an old family favourite, one of your own creations or a recipe passed down through the generations. All you have to consider is that it must be affordable and suitable for packing and delivery.

The closing date is 5th June. Entries should include your name and contact details, the name of the dish, ingredients, method and portion size and be sent by email to jane.coleman@nottscc.gov.uk or by post to:

Jane Coleman, County Enterprise Foods, Dukeries Way, Dukeries Industrial Estate, Worksop S81 7DW.

The Meals at Home team delivers more than 1,400 servings of food to the Nottinghamshire’s older people and vulnerable adults every day, including six customers aged over 100.

Customers already get to choose from a range of more than 60 dishes, including breakfast, main meals, deserts, a la carte, ethnic foods and diabetic, gluten free and vegeterian options.

County Enterprise Foods, the County Council’s trading arm and supported employment provider is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Coun Kevin Rostance, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health at Nottinghamshire County Council said, “We’re really looking forward to seeing what tasty recipe ideas people come up with. The menu range we offer is already comprehensive, so it will definitely be a challenge.

“County Enterprise Foods is a real success story, so much so that we also supply other local authorities and organisations, so around 5,000 people enjoy our meals every day.

“I recently had the pleasure of joining the community meals team on their delivery rounds and got a great insight into the fantastic job they do and how the service is highly regarded by older people.”
