What’s new on public transport in Mansfield and Ashfield?

This is the first of a series of monthly columns aimed at keeping you up to date with what’s new on local bus and rail services. We’ll be looking at bus and rail travel not just in the Chad area, but any services that you might want to use within easy reach of the Mansfield and Ashfield area.

On the trains - Let’s begin with the changes at Nottingham Station, which has reopened after several weeks of closure during which a large number of replacement bus services were provided – not all of which operated smoothly , as reported in Chad.

One of the major changes is the main ticket office, which has relocated to Station Street. The new ticket office has both window service and ticket machines. Opening times are Mondays to Saturdays 05.00-22.00 and Sundays 07.15- 22.20. Ticket machines are also located in other parts of the station including the front entrance.

Disabled access is also at the front of the station as well as from the Queen’s Road Car Park on Platform 6. For full details of the changes, including a plan of the reorganized station go to eastmidlandstrains.co.uk.

As a special thank you to East Midlands Trains customers for putting up with the disruption, single fare tickets to London from Nottingham for £10 (or £20 return) are on offer – just make sure you book by 29th September.

On the buses - Trent Barton has a new look website which enables you to find the time of the next bus from your nearest stop on your PC, or mobile. The full timetables of every service are also there as usual. There are more town centre maps, including Sutton and Mansfield, and even hospital and university maps, showing where to catch your bus.

If you’re travelling between Nottingham and Derby on a trent barton ‘Zigzag’ ticket, you can also use the ticket on the yourbus ‘citylink’ service, although at every 20 mins., this is less frequent than trent barton’s Red Arrow which is every 10 mins.

This controversial offer by yourbus, which continues until September 29th, has not gone down well with trent barton as you might imagine.

Now for the route and timetable changes for September…

Stagecoach Mansfield has announced timetable changes for the following Sunday (and Bank Holiday) services: 6, 10A, 12, 15A, 16A and 140, taking effect from the start of September. Also service 82 (Chesterfield to Langwith) has a revised timetable from September 8th.

Trent Barton’s “the threes” (A, B and C) to Nottingham will have a revised Sunday timetable from 29th September

Service 31 (Bilsthorpe to Eakring and Ollerton operated by Travelwright) will have a revised timetable from 30th September

Finally Eastwood local bus services 101 and 103 (operated by yourbus) will have revised timetables from 16th September and the yourbus service Y29 (Eastwood to QMC) will be withdrawn as from 13th September.

Zig Zag accepted on Citylink until end of September, but Red Arrow more frequent

Yourbus Y29, operating between Eastwood and Queen’s Medical Centre will be withdrawn after the last journey on Friday 13 September 2013

Trentbarton new website “trentbarton live” - find out the next bus(es) from your stop on PC, or mobile. No need to consult the full timetable.
