Gusts of more than 60mph have buffeted Nottinghamshire throughout Wednesday as extreme weather continues to affect large parts of Britain.

Locally, a tree was reportedly to have come down in Annesley with the A611 Derby Road junction and the Hucknall Road junction closed in both directions.

There are also reports of fallen power cables on Fiskerton Road in Southwell, with police diverting traffic in the area.

Tonight, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has issued warnings via Twitter for residents to stay safe.

It tweeted: “We are out attending several dangerous structures, do you really need to be out tonight? Trees blown down, buildings becoming dangerous...

“Please be extra vigilant, lots of water and debris on the roads. Slow and steady with lots of space to other vehicles especially lorries!”
