WARSOP’S annual carnival is the latest outdoor event to fall victim to one of the wettest summers on record.

The popular event, which was due to take place on Sunday, will still have live indoor music at the Black Market but there will be no outdoor elements.

Warsop Parish Council Chairman, Stuart Moody, described the news as devastating.

He said: “It’s obviously very frustrating. Understandably nothing can be done about the weather but a lot of hard work has already been put in.

“For community groups and charities this is their main fundraising event of the year and the people of Warsop are missing out on a free event.”

Mr Moody said they can’t afford to host another carnival later in the year.

He added: “We have still got the cost of the acts to pay for but we won’t be getting of the money coming in.

“The light at the end of the tunnel is we are still having a live music event at the Black Market music venue from 12-7pm.

“Kitty from X-factor will still be performing.

“It is a free event but wont have the same number of people that can watch it.”
