POLICE are warning people to be on their guard against “cold-calling conmen” and rogue traders who use aggressive selling methods and charge excessive prices.
Following the bad weather, there is a risk of workmen calling at homes to make repairs who may be unreliable, do a poor job and charge a fortune.
Insp Russ Dakin from Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “Our advice is that you should always get three quotes for any work and never agree a deal on the doorstep. Cold-calling conmen, who charge extortionate rates for botched jobs, or use the chat on the doorstep as a distraction for burglary, can bring despair.”
l Anyone who is worried by strangers calling at their home or has information that would lead to the arrest of any distraction burglar or rogue trader should ring their local police on 0345 123 33 33.
