Warning over car aerial thefts in Somercotes and Swanwick

POLICE are offering advice and encouraging residents to report anything suspicious following concerns about car aerials being stolen in the Somercotes and Swanwick area.

A number of people have spoken to officers from the Somercotes and Riddings Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team about the issue.

PCSO Richard Plant of the Somercotes and Ridings Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I have been made aware by several members of the public that aerials have been taken from cars, which initially happened around Christmas time but that a few others have happened more recently.

“It is quite costly and also inconvenient for people to replace and repair their aerials so I would ask residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.”

“We are carrying out regular patrols in the area and we are also asking motorists to help prevent having their vehicles damaged by parking them in a secure garage if they have one or to remove any aerials before leaving them overnight.”

Anyone with information about the incidents should contact Derbyshire police on 101, the non emergency number, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
