THREE war medals were among the items stolen during a burglary in Mansfield Woodhouse.

The campaign medals from the First World War were snatched when thieves forced entry to the property in Ashwell Avenue between 5.30pm on 10th January and 1.30am the next day.

The three medals, a 1914 Star, a British War medal and a Victoria Medal, were awarded to men who served throughout the First World War and had belonged to the residents’ grandfather.

Three small, circular cycling medals, dating back to the 1930s, were also taken during the break-in.

All the medals were engraved with either the name John Martin or John Blackledge.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call DC Craig Hall, at Mansfield CID, on 101 extension 805 3463, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
