ASHFIELD residents are being urged to return their voter registration forms as soon as possible in time for the 2012 Police Commissioner Elections.
Forms are being delivered to homes across the district over the coming weeks to compile the electoral register ahead of the elections next May.
Ashfield’s electoral registration officer Philip Marshall said that residents must return their forms in the next few weeks so their voices can be heard.
“Registering to vote is very simple and all you have to do is update the annual canvass form with the details of everyone in your household who is eligible to vote and return it to us as soon as possible,” he said.
“If your details haven’t changed you can also reply by phone or internet.
“There was a lot of interest in this year’s referendum on the UK voting system and we were pleased with the increase in registration shortly before polling day.
“However, some people may not realise that they have to register every year.
“It is important that you complete and return the registration form so you’re able to take part in the election next year.”
On the electoral registration form residents can opt to have their details excluded from the edited register so details cannot be bought by individuals and commercial organisations.
Anyone wishing to be excluded from this register will need to place a tick in the box on the registration form.
If you haven’t received your form by 24th August, call Mansfield 457321 or residents can register to vote by visiting www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.
