Volunteer at Bolsover Castle

Once used as a retreat by William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle, a flamboyant courtier to Charles I, the castle will soon be alive four centuries on, as part of a £1m project, organisers said.

From Spring 2014, visitors can rediscover what Bolsover meant to Cavendish and his contemporaries through new furnishings and interpretation, which give a flavour of ‘Cavalier’ decadence.

The castle has attracted visitors for hundreds of years, and it is hoped that the current restoration work will encourage more people to visit, as well as the town and surrounding countryside when the site reopens in April.

The volunteer explainers will play a central role in helping people from all over the world to explore the site heritage, and act as the first point of contact for visitors.

Spokesman Keith Holland said: “We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic and confident volunteers to be part of our fantastic team, to help visitors enjoy their visit.”
