We go along to the gym with Mansfield’s own heartbreaker, who has taken on somewhat a celebrity status since appearing on ITV’s take me out.
Fitness-freak Gaz Meredith is a black belt in Taekwondo, he’s a trick-biker, a weight lifter, a kick boxer – so it’s no surprise he that was a ‘hit’ with the ladies when he appeared on the prime time dating show last Saturday.
Soon to make his second appearance, the 26-year-old who has grown up between Mansfield and Nottingham will be back on our screens on this Saturday, December 9 as we catch up on his date with fellow martial arts enthusiast, Charlotte.
Gaz told us after impressing all 30 ladies on the show, and displaying his array of acrobatic talents, that he’s been looking for love for a good while.
He said: “Since my last genuine relationship it’s been about two years. I’ve had flames, but if there’s no spark with somebody it’s not worth it.
“I train a lot and work really hard so it leaves little time to go out socializing, it can be difficult for me to meet new people, it always makes for a cheap night out though!!
And as his fellow gym-goers at Mansfiled Puregym gawp as we film some of his moves, how has he been handling his new celebrity status?
“Social media has been crazy, I never had Twitter before but I was told to get one. It’s really weird seeing what people write about you.”
“You do get people who recognise you and come over to say hello. If people ever recognise me it’s usually from training hard in the gym, or seeing me do crazy stuff on my bike.”
Those who saw the show will now Gaz had quite a repartee with the ladies. But he doesn’t go for cheesy lines when he’s on a night out.
“I don’t use chat up lines,” he laughes. “And I’d advise anyone who does to stop. They are wayyy outdated, unless they’re THAT bad they’re funny!”
And the audience thought he had met his match when he chose to go on his date with 23-year-old Charlotte, a karate-kicking account manager from Canvey Island in Essex. He said: “I can’t say too much about our date - all I can say is that there was a bit of drama, but a lot of fun.” “The date we went on wasn’t in the best setting ever, it was a laugh though, Charlotte’s a lovely girl and I enjoyed getting to know her.” But did the two end up in a showdown? Said Gaz: “We had a brief little fight scene - it was only two kicks really.” Some viewers may have been confused as to why the lad who lives in Mansfield described himself as ‘Gaz from Nottingham’. Gaz explains: “I’ve lived in both Nottingham and Mansfield, Nobody’s heard of Mansfield and Nottinghamshire is far too long so they gave me the choice and I said ‘well just go with Nottingham’. I’m not embarrassed of Mansfield... People don’t get shot there ‘duck’eh’!” Make sure you see how Gaz gets on in the next episode of Take Me Out, ITV1 on Saturday, 8pm.
