A special event held in Skegby at the weekend gave residents the chance to find out more about what life was like 100 years ago when the First World War broke out.

The Methodist Church and Anchor Centre played host to a commemorative day held to mark the centenary of the start of the war and gave people a taste of different aspects of life at that time.

Church members put on a comedy sketch around enlisting.

Organised by Skegby resident and war historian Karen Holloway, the event included a presentation on local soldiers who fought in the war, a sing-a-long of war songs and a touching performance of The Last Post by a piper and bugler.
