Detectives investigating the death of a young man in a suspected hit-and-run have reissued their appeal for information.

At a press conference at Derbyshire police headquarters this morning, the mother of Halcyon Theuri, Faith, and his stepdad, Andi, also paid an emotional tribute to their son.

Halcyon, 21, was found dead in the middle of Wingfield Road, Alfreton, shortly before 4am on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

Police have carried out extensive enquiries to find out how Halcyon died and believe he may have been hit by a vehicle although they are keeping an open mind.

Halcyon had been out for a drink in Ripley with friends and was on his way home to the Peacock pub in Oakerthorpe, where he worked as a chef.

Thanks to information from the public and CCTV images, it has emerged that Halcyon left the Tesco car park at 3.30am and walked down King Street towards Gooker Lane. He was found in the Alfreton-bound carriageway of the A615 at 3.54am.

Chief Inspector Dick Hargreaves, head of the force’s roads policing unit, said: “Our appeal today is targeted at two drivers who used the road between 3.40 and 3.50 that morning. CCTV footage from a house on Wingfield Road shows a car driving towards Oakerthorpe at 3.43am and another car travelling in the direction of Alfreton at 3.46am.

“Both of those drivers could have seen Halcyon and may have vital information that will help our investigation. It’s important that we get to the truth about how Halcyon died and give his family some closure.

“We’ve released the CCTV footage in the hope that it will jog someone’s memory. Although it isn’t of very good quality, we hope it will make people stop and think about where they were and what they were doing in the early hours of that bank holiday.

“We’d also like to speak to anyone else who was either in the area of Tesco or Wingfield Road between 3am and 4am.”
