HERE is the moment that King’s Mill Hospital’s old maternity wing, the Dukeries Centre, was brought crashing down to earth.
The building has of course been replaced by brand new state-of-the-art facilities, but with thousands of babies being born there over the years, many local people have happy memories of the place.
The Dukeries Centre first opened its doors on 13th January 1974 and closed on 9th November 2010.
Demolition work started on Monday.
The space it occupied will be cleared and used to create an additional 80 to 100 parking spaces for patients.
